Study Predicts 5.6 million New Healthcare Jobs by 2020

June 27, 2012

June 27, 2012 A new study conducted by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, predicts that 5.6 million new jobs will be created as a result of the growth in demand for healthcare by 2020. This increased demand for healthcare-related jobs represents a 29% increase over ten years, according to the study.

The increase will take the healthcare from 15.6 million jobs in 2010 to an estimated 19.8 million jobs in 2020. As the fastest growing sector of the U.S. economy, the study estimates that total healthcare services spending will increase from 1.8 trillion to $3.1 trillion by 2020.

The study also predicts that of all the jobs in healthcare, as many as 82% will require some form of post secondary education and/or additional training.
